In a study examining oral brush cytology slides using AI has been achieved promising results in detection of oral potentially malignant (OPML)/malignant lesions.
By using a portable automated tablet-based tele-cytology platform capable of digitization of cytology slides they evaluated its efficacy in the detection of OPML/malignant lesions and explored tele-cytology integrated with the risk stratification model ,can be an invaluable point of care (POC) tool for early detection/screening in oral cancer.
The studies shows that less than 65%of primary care centers have access to reliable pathology services in low-middle income countries.Hence,a tele-cytology platform that provides reliable remote connectivity to frontline workers and specialists may improve early detection of oral cancer.
