Periodontal diseases (PD) are a group of chronic inflammatory diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis.These diseases are driven by several microbial agents that cause inflammation and destruction of tooth-supporting tissues.PD could be associated with severe COVID-19 illness. Oral medical history of PD could be a characteristic to identify a risk group to severe COVID-19. The suggested relationship between PD and severe COVID-19 illness could be connected to closely shared risk factors among these affections.Shared risk factors by PD and severe COVID-19 illness such as aging , hypertension and cardiovascular disease , diabetes mellitus , obesity , smoking.Assessment of the periodontal status of individuals can aid in the identification of risk groups during the pandemic along with reinforcing the need to maintain oral hygiene and seeking periodontal care.
